We are deeply saddened by the passing of Edward Arthur Lewis, a 7th-generation Vermonter and longtime Poultney Historical Society board trustee. Ed was a Poultney treasure and beloved by all of us in this organization.
Ed shared his extensive family history and his experience as a farmer with hundreds of Poultney fourth graders over the years. Each spring, a new class would come to the East Poultney Schoolhouse for their Vermont History component, and Ed would engage their imaginations with his vivid stories. He often talked about his time as an elementary school student during the Great Depression.
Ed passed on June 11th at the age of 90. Calling hours are at Durfee’s Funeral Home in Fair Haven on Wednesday, June 16th from 5-7pm. The funeral is at the Poultney Methodist Church on June 17th at 11am.
He was a dear friend to many at the Poultney Historical Society, and we will miss him terribly.
